The lesson here may be that if there’s a digital good you can pay Apple for once, there’s likely an opportunity for a subscription service for that category with recurring payments....

Apple today seeded the second beta of the upcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 update to registered developers and participants in the AppleSeed program. It’s no secret that Pandora has struggled to adapt to the new era of on-demand streaming services. Yesterday in the US Patent and Trademark Office database surfaced an interesting Apple patent providing a glimpse of an exciting software feature that could be possibly used to enhance the user interface for handling apps that multitask on an iPad. Originally filed in the third quarter of 2009 and entitled “Device, method, and graphical user interface for manipulating workspace views”, the patent application describes methods for solving cumbersome and inefficient moving of one or more windows between workspaces, or seeing several workspace views simultaneously....

We’ve just been tipped that Pages for iPad has Retina display icons. We’ve verified the findings, above. Our first thought was, oh dang, the iPad 2 is going to have Retina! But these icons don’t have iPad suffixes. Another equally interesting possibility exists. Pages, along with the rest of iWork, might be making its way, at long last, to the iPhone 4 and iPod touch with Retina. In either case (or if this is just Apple making bigger icons for the sake of being safe), we’ve also been hearing to expect updated versions of iWork and iWork....
